Day 1 - After arrival at Bergen airport , collect your luggage, and proceed to meet your driver for a transfer to the historic Grand Hotel Terminus, known as Bergen’s Grand Old Lady. Set in the heart of Bergen, the hotel has been restored to its previous glory. After check-in, you can explore Bergen at your leisure. This beautiful Hanseatic town, founded in year 1070, has always been an important trade and naval town, and the old city and Bryggen are UNESCO world heritage sites. You can take a walk through the medieval buildings of Bryggen, the Rosenkrantz tower, Haakonshallen and Bergenhus fortress. The cozy old town, with its narrow-cobbled streets is easily accessible on foot. Before you return to the hotel, take a ride on the Floybane, a cable carriage railway, which goes from Bergen city center to Mount Floyen . There is a restaurant at the top where you can enjoy stunning view of Bergen while having lunch (at your own cost). The rest of the day is free, for further exploration or some well-deserved rest.Dinner on your own.
Overnight day 1: Grand Hotel Terminus, Bergen
Included day 1: Private transfer Bergen airport to Grand Hotel Terminus; the Floybane cable car ride; accommodation at Grand Hotel Terminus.
Day 2 - After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, check out and transfer to the express boat terminal. Your boat will take you to Skjerjehamn, which was known for fishing, trade and industry in former centuries but today only a few houses surround the hotel on a small, beautiful, peninsula.
Once you arrive in Skjerjeham, proceed to Skjerehamn hotel and check-in. The hotel has been restored to its former greatness and is ready to welcome guests from all over the world. After check-in, take the ferry which is nearby, for an excursion to a remote island, located at the start of Sognefjord. Your guide will meet you upon arrival on the island. You will have the opportunity to visit an ecological farm with wild sheep, chickens and horses. The owner will introduce you to how an ecological farm can operate on such a remote island, in the very far west of Norway. Snacks or a packed lunch from the hotel can be arranged at an additional cost. Then, a short hike to the highest point on the island for a stunning view over the Sognefjord archipelago. After the hike, the boat tour will continue with a trout or salmon fish farm tour, where you will learn how the fish farmer takes care of his “animals”. Return to the hotel. A delicious dinner will be served in the old warehouse (beverages available at your own cost).
Overnight day 2: Skjerjehamn hotel
Included day 2: Breakfast at Grand Hotel Terminus, Bergen; transfer from Grand Hotel Terminus to the express boat terminal; express boat Bergen – Skjerjehamn; guided tour of a remote island. Dinner in the old warehouse (beverages at your own cost) in Skjerjehamn. Overnight accommodation Skjerjehamn hotel.
Day 3 - After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, check out and proceed to take the express boat from Skjerjehamn for a fantastic tour through the great Sognefjord, the king of fjords, to Balestrand.
Upon arrival in Balestrand, you will be met at the boat and assisted with storing your luggage during your visit. The charming village of Balestrand was a centre for creative art during the 19th century, enjoyed by both tourists and royalty! Enjoy a guided walk of Balestrand, including the English church. Not only does this church hide a fantastic love story, it was also the inspiration for the church in the Hollywood movie Frozen. Your tour will take you to The Cider House for apple cider tasting and lunch (coffee, tea, water included. Additional beverages at your own cost). Balestrand is known as “the art village, with four art galleries, and after lunch you will have a guided art gallery tour. Or if you prefer a different experience, you can choose a 2-3 hour fishing trip on the fjord, with an expert fisherman (at an additional cost).
After the activities, you will be transferred to your historic and charming hotel in Hafslo, 5 minutes drive outside Solvorn, a small, beautiful fjord hamlet. Check in and then enjoy a delicious dinner at the hotel (coffee, tea, water included. Additional beverages at your own cost.)
Overnight day 3: Eikum Hotel, Hafslo (3 star)
Included day 3: Breakfast at the Skjerjehamn hotel; express boat from Skjerjehamn to Balstrand; guided tour of Balestrand. Apple cider tasting and lunch at The Cider House (beverages other than cider at extra cost). Guided art gallery tour in Balestrand. Private coach transfer from Balestrand to Hafslo. Accommodation at Eikum hotel, Hafslo. Dinner at the hotel (Beverages at an additional cost).
Day 4 - After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, your guide will meet you for a walking tour of Solvorn. Today, this small hamlet is off the beaten track, but that was not always the case. Solvorn has a long history as a trade centre and was the centre of the region 100 years ago, when the fjord was the “road” and everything was transported by boat. After the walking tour of Solvorn, you’ll board a ferry for a short ride across the fjord to Urnes. Urnes was settled in the middle ages with several farms owned by nobles. Here, you can visit the famous Urnes Stave church, a UNESCO listed church and the oldest and best-preserved stave church in the world. After the church visit, we will drive the romantic road at the south side of the Lusterfjord and on the Sognefjell mountain road (weather conditions permitted). Lunch will be served at the historic Turtagro hotel.
After lunch, there will be a stop at Mollandsmarki, with stunning views of the Sognefjord, the surrounding mountains and the Solvorn hamlet, with great picture taking opportunities. There is opportunity along the drive to stop and purchase local products and souvenirs (seasonal limitations). The next stop will be a visit to a local deer farm, where you can learn about meat production. Weather permitting, we will sit by the bonfire and enjoy our dinner (if weather is not cooperating, dinner will be served inside).
After dinner, return to the hotel via private transfer.
Optional tour (extra cost): Take a hiking tour up to Svarthiller or Molden Mountain, both with spectacular views. The Svarthiller hike is appx. 1 hour each way and the Molden Mountain hike, 2 hours each way.
Overnight day 4: : Eikum Hotel, Hafslo (3 star)
Included day 4: Breakfast at the Eikum hotel; guided walking tour of Solvorn; ferry from Solvorn to Urnes; private transportation; lunch at Trutagro hotel (beverages not included); dinner at the deer farm (beverages not included).
Day 5 - After breakfast at the hotel, set off on your glacier discovery day. First stop is a visit to Breheim Centre in Jostedalen valley , a national information center for Jostedalsbreen glacier national park. There, you have stunning views of the Nigardsbreen glacier, a branch of the Jostedal Glacier. You will be able to take a 2 kilometer hike up to this wonderful glacier with a skilled guide, but please keep in mind that some of the terrain is rugged. After the hike, lunch will be served in the Breheim centre (beverages not included).
After lunch, we will drive to Styggevatnet (direct translation, Lake Ugly) It is not ugly, but it is a reservoir for a hydroelectric powerplant. The Austerdalbreen glacier is also located here.
Optional activities (additional cost): You may want to consider hiking to the glacier or kayaking to a Austerdalbreen glacier, rafting in Jostedøla river or canyoning in small branches of Jostedøla . Later, we return to the hotel . Dinner at the hotel (beverages not included).
Optional glacier experience (additional cost): You can visit Veitastrond, far off the beaten track. In the 19th century, one could only reach Veitastrond by boat. You can still see the old boat-pull trail along the river, re-built in the 19th century. Due to the strong current, it was necessary to have this installation to pull the boats upstream. Today, we can travel by road to Veitastrond, even in the winter, with access through a new tunnel. After arriving in Veitastrond, there is a short walk to Tungestølen, the old summer pasture for livestock.
From here, you can take a guided hike to Austerdalsbreen glacier with a glaciologist as guide, who will discuss the impact the glacier had on the surrounding landscape. William Cecil Slingsby ,an English mountaineer and alpine explorer, was the first to hike Austerdalsbreen, in 1894, and said "This is probably the finest ice-scenery in Europe". The glacier has three branches meeting into the valley, Odin in the middle, Loke on the left and Thor on the right, a truly spectacular view. The hike will take appx. 4-5 hours, on mostly flat terrain. As another optional activity, (additional cost) you can consider learning how to make the traditional Norwegian flatbread produced in Veitastrond.
Overnight day 5 : Eikum Hotel, Hafslo (3 star)
Included day 5: Breakfast at the hotel; transportation to the glaciers; guided hiking tour of the glacier, lunch at Breheim centre (beverages not included); dinner at Eikum Hotel (beverages not included).
Day 6 - After breakfast, check out of the hotel. Private transfer to Flam. When arriving Flam, we recommend a trip with an electric boat, cruising 2 hours at the Aurland fjord and UNESCO listed Naeroyfjord, to Gudvangen, which is by many considered a “bucket list” activity.
When you arrive Gudvangen, walk to Njardarheimr Vikingtown for a one hour guided tour. hour. This is a small town, built to bring to life the real history and culture of the Viking age. The town is inhabited all year round, and you will get a glimpse of how our Viking ancestors lived. Here, you will also have opportunity to have a coffee/tea break.
Transfer back to Flam and check into the 4 star Flåmsbrygga hotel, the brewery hotel. Lunch is on your own and there are many nice local cafés or restaurants in Flam.. The rest of the day is free. You may want to take the Flam zipline, the longest zipline in Scandinavia or drive to Stegastein viewpoint for a stunning view of the fjord landscape. Dinner on your own.
Overnight day 6 : Flåmsbrygga hotel (4 star).
Included day 6: Breakfast at the Flåmsbrygga hotel; electric boat ride on the fjord; guided tour of Njardarheimr Vikingtown; coffee/tea break in Njardarheimr Viking town; return transfer to Flam.
Day 7 - After breakfast, check out of your hotel and transfer to the Flamsbana railway. This is regarded as one of the most spectacular and beautiful rail journeys in Europe. Upon arrival in Bergen, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight. Farvel Norge!
