Highlights of Austria

DAY 1On your way to the hotel from the airport, with a panoramic site-seeing tour,  you will pass by the major sites and views of the Austrian capital. Optional: additional sightseeing tours – private or group may be added.

 

DAY 2We start the day with a visit to the City Center, admiring the historical buildings of Hofburg, Stephans and Dom.  We walk through the old cities main streets and visit the Naschmarkt. Afterwards a tour will lead to the imperial castle of Schönbrunn for a visit of the palace and the park, before returning to the hotel for a break. Late afternoon you may want to visit the famous Prater leisure park.

 

DAY 3Today’s tour leads to the Danube valley. The Wachau region with its picturesque views, the vineyards and small villages give evidence of the industrial and agricultural importance the river had. After a stay in Krems, proceed to the famous monastery in Melk, before returning back to Vienna via the Wienerwald route. – Late afternoon and evening time for shopping and leisure. Optional: Vienna concert with tunes of Mozart and Strauss (with/without Dinner

DAY 4Check-out after breakfast from the Vienna Hotel and drive south into Burgenland. In its capital Eisenstadt the famous baroque Palace Esterhazy is seen. From there a visit will lead to castle Forchtenstein to enjoy the view-point from this middle age fortress. The tour will lead onwards to Graz for check-in at the hotel and a first sight-seeing tour in the city. Overnight in Graz.

DAY 5Today the tour leads into the Salzkammergut region, via Gmunden to Salzburg, the Mozart city. After passing midday in the town and it’s sites, the route back to Graz leads via the well known resorts of St. Wolfgang and the imperial Spa Bad Ischl. Overnight in Graz.

 

DAY 6Famous sites and views are on today’s program: the landscape of Carinthia with its capital Klagenfurt where also a cruise on Lake Wörther may be enjoyed. Thereafter the tour leads to Europe’s highest waterfall, the Krimmlerfall. Back to Graz the route includes the alpine passway of Grossglockner with amazing views on the Austrian and Italian high mountains.

 

DAY 7Todays program is dedicated to the Steiermark region. The tour leads to Leoben, city of metal handcraft and to Eisenerz, the mine where metal has been excavated. As an option, the historic train can be used to get through the narrow valley from Leoben to Eisenerz. On our way back, a stopover at the old city of Judenburg gives insight to the importance of commercial routes through Austria in past centuries. Afternoon at leisure in Graz, the capital of Steiermark.

DAY 8Departure day – after check-out from the hotel and transfer to the airport. Depending on flight time additional program on route is possible.
